Payroll: many small rules, applied to every employee, every month.
Indian payroll combines income-tax deduction on salaries with provident fund, employees' state insurance, professional tax by state and the wage definitions under the labour codes. A small error, repeated across every employee and every month, becomes a large one.

The labour codes changed the answers
India's four labour codes — on wages, social security, industrial relations and occupational safety — took effect on 21 November 2025, replacing 29 earlier labour laws. They changed basic definitions, including what counts as wages, which flows into provident fund, ESI and gratuity.
Some central and state rules under the codes are still being notified, so the correct answer keeps moving. AI trained on earlier material gets these questions wrong by default — confidently. That makes payroll one of the clearest cases for testing now and re-testing as each rule lands. Continuous evaluation.
