Customs: one wrong classification, repeated on every shipment.
Import and export AI tools suggest tariff classifications, calculate duty and check eligibility for exemptions and export schemes. A wrong classification is repeated on every shipment until someone notices — often at an audit.

What we plan to cover
| Area | Example judgment |
|---|---|
| Tariff classification | Which heading applies to this product |
| Duty calculation | Basic duty, integrated tax and cesses on import |
| Valuation | Adjustments for related parties and additional costs |
| Exemptions and trade agreements | Eligibility and conditions for concessional duty |
| Export incentives | Scheme eligibility and conditions under foreign trade policy |
Why it's next
Customs sits right beside GST. Both are indirect taxes administered by CBIC, both turn on notifications and exemptions that change often, and many of the same finance teams, trade-tech firms and logistics companies handle both.
In September 2026 the CBIC chairman called for faster use of AI, machine learning and real-time analytics in customs, towards a near-touchless experience for trusted traders and a single trusted-taxpayer view across GST and customs. As AI takes on more of that work, its classification and duty answers need checking against the law.

Customs AI testing — FAQ
Can you test customs and trade AI today?+
Not yet. Customs is being prepared as one of our next domains, alongside TDS and income tax. Discuss a mission to shape the first test pack.
What would be tested?+
Tariff classification, duty calculation, valuation, exemptions and trade agreements, and export incentive conditions.
Who would certify the answers?+
Licensed customs brokers and trade compliance specialists, working alongside the Chartered Accountants who certify our GST answers. They are being recruited as the domain opens.
Why is customs next?+
It sits beside our GST work: the same indirect-tax family administered by CBIC, an overlapping professional pool and many of the same buyers. Customs is also moving quickly to AI-assisted clearance.
